What exactly does it do? Does anyone have screenshots with 0 AF vs 16XAF?

it filters the scropic. LOL i actually have no idea what it does either.

Anisotropic filtering?

It makes textures look a bit better. You won't notice it in a fast paced game though

Anisotropic filtering is now common in modern graphics hardware and enabled either by users through driver settings or by graphics applications & video games through programming interfaces.

It makes the texture far away sharper and cleaner.

Basically it removes the blur on textures in games at distance.
turn it off, look at how textures far away are blurry and soft. Turn it on, theyre still nice and crisp through out.

heres an example i found googling.

by the way, its not distance quality textures as of DX8, its angled textures. and it is just a fix for the X vs Y pixel resolution ratio caused by downscaling of textures to save memory and make angled textures appear, instead of blurred, sharp, but not the kind of "sharp" you get with picmips disabled. id give an example of this but i dont have a videocard capable of any of these quality settings at the moment.

Anisotropic Filtering improve textures when viewing them at an angle.

I guess my work here has already been done.

Basically if you like awping in CSS on dust2, turn AF all the way up so you can see your target clearer through the double doors.
