Please help me decide on x48 motherboard!

Hello I will finally be building my new computer now that the ati 4870 came out. But one thing that has been keeping me from buying pc is what board to get?

is it wise to get a x48 board now or get P45 chipset?

I decided not to use ddr3 also for several reasons also so which board do you guys recommend?

parts I am planning to buy:

visiontek ati 4870 ( is visiontek good company?)
intel E8400/ or a Q9450 ( what do you guys think ? )
4 gb or DDR2 ram not sure on speed if it says ddr2 1200 can i use ddr2 1066?
windows vista ultimate 64 bit
Power supply ? not sure i want 750W+ maybe that nice thermaltake toughpower 850w

In your honest opinions guys coming from a person who prefers not to buy and change computer parts often ( took me 4+ years to upgrade) I like to get something that even if its not true last me a long time from now ( hard to say in computer world nowadyas lol ) also I don't do a lot of overclocking and maybe if i overclock only a tiny bit.

which of these 2 boards you recommend? are they any good for all these parts:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131284

or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128331

I decided on x48 considering if i may want to upgrade graphics later in future i can just use a second card or 3rd card.

any suggestions is extremely appreciated.

My vote:

Open box X48 ->

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16813136046R

I've had great experience with my X48-T2R and have taken my Q6700 as high as 4.1ghz on air... The NB runs on 450FSB stable on just 1.34V! This mobo has been run hard and keeps coming back for more, get the T2R open box you'll love it.

Why get X48 as it is just a X38 - get a cheaper X38 board and flash the bios - only case i have seen is the Asus P5E/Maximus/Rampage trio - it is the same board and you can flash the bios's between them - my P5E is running the Rampage bios and all the options work just fine
=Cheap X48 board

Only thing is the P5E dosent have many temp sensors soldered on - the mounts are there, just not connected, so maybe get the Maximus and flash it to the rampage to get the extra sensors

If it were me I'd get the Rampage and not the open box because that won't have all the accessories that the retail one comes with. Especially the LCD poster. That is awesome. If you get an OC failure that will point in the direction of the problem( It won't tell you the exact problem, but it helps a lot).
I'd also get this RAM( yes you can use 1066 when it says 1200, that just tells the max speed it's rated for)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231166
I'd get this PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341011
And if you can I'd get the E8500 instead of the E8400,

X48's aren't really worth it even for CF'ing, the only reason they're different from their X38 little brothers is because of a higher FSB support, but most people don't even buy the chips that the support is for. Because of that, get an X38, you're saving yourself some money, and there will be no hindering factors to CF. I notice that only 1 person mentioned DFI, so I'm here to put in another vote for that (I have the DK X38 in my sig rig). These babies have as many options you could want for OC'ing, and then some, it bumped my E6400 up an entire GHz (again, see sig rig).

Visiontek is the best ATI card manufacturer, they have the lifetime warranty of greatness.
For gaming, get the E8400, you'll never use all the cores if you get a quad because hardly any games are written for their threading. Yeah, the "standard" doesn't really mean anything, because you can just tell the BIOS what to run your memory at and it'll be fine (my mobo's standard is 800, but I'm using 1066 without any hitches). Uh, for PSU for CF'ed cards, keep 750 as your minimum, and 1k as your maximum for wattage, but pay close attention to the amperage (make sure that it has at least 40A on it, hopefully more like 72A) because that's what really matters for video cards.

I wouldn't recommend the Gigabyte if you're using a CPU heatsink that has a backplate.
