Please help me decide on x48 motherboard! - Page 2

it's the same old argument, get a dual if you don't OC, get the quad if you OC (from a gamer's perspective)

but you mention that you want the long run and imo computers will start using multi core systems over the next 2 years, so if it were me i'd get the quad and bump it like 200mhz

PS: the V-tek 3870 i have clocks higher than the diamond (885 vs 865 on stock cooler w/o v-mod) but those clocks arent stable unless fans are running 100%, but i've been nothing but happy with the card

Thank you all very much for your honest opinions, I am going to go with the x48 rampage formula and that PSU x2s3w4 recommended its perfect. under the Visiontek box it says 600 w recommended for crossfire so it should be fine i guess.

Another thing to add how can i check if my memory would have trouble with board? do i have to check manufacturers web site and under what ? i heard some friends say some boards have problems reading 4 gb of ram is this true? I was hoping on getting these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227289

are these any good for my board? someone recommended me this but not sure if its good company since i never bought from OCZ before.

Another thing is the Q9450 better than the E8400 if you don't overclock anything or at most air cooling OC'ing? if you don't overclock, is Q9450 better than the other? i am not sure if i should jump into quad yet but someone told me Q9450 excellent cpu.

Will the extra 125 bucks justify the quad ? ( what are your opinions, remember i am a person that doesn't upgrade often )

Anyways I am extremely grateful and happy with reply I appreciate any additional information provided thank you all.

I've bought OCZ with Asus boards before and it always worked well for me.
As far as the boards recognizing 4 GB of memory, Windows 32 bit operating systems can't use all 4 GB of RAM however 64 bit can use much more( like 32 GB or something like that).
Q9450 and E8400 is probably more of a preference for you. If you won't upgrade for a while it might work out for you. Whether or not you overclock it doesn't really matter. The E8400 will OC higher most likely and right now most games won't use 4 cores, but it is supposed to change in the near future.

Visiontek Ati 4870
my Audi g 2 zs sound card died from creative (had this for 4 years) so i bought

what do you guys think on this build ? it was a pain in the ass to pay like 90 bucks for tax stupid NYC tax laws and newegg but i was desperate and i wanted ot get all ym parts all at one time. Only thing additional was sound card but now i feel sort of bad about purchasing it but I am a big audio freak and sound is important as any other part in my pc.

any comments is greatly appreciated.

Seems like a good purchase. You should be really happy with the 4870.

Motherboard: Excessive. The Gigabyte DS4 would have been fine, and you would have saved some money. Another option would have been the DFI one I saw on Newegg for like $230

GPU: Visiontek is an awesome company, you get a lifetime warranty vs the 1-3yr warranty from other ATI vendors.

RAM: Good deal, you get the fan with them.

PSU: Excellent quality, you'll be fine running crossfire on that thing.

Sound Card: If your any kind of an audiophile, a good sound card is a must. That sound card is excellent, I would have gone with the cheaper fatality version seeing how the pci-e slot it takes it shouldn't really make to much a difference.

CPU: That quad is nice, but once again, I would have gone with the q6600, or the q9300. Saved some money once again.

Very nice setup you have, but you probably could have saved some money.

Alternatives you should have considered -
