Changing Fans-Worth the Money?

Thread Starter
I currently have a Cooler Master 690. And I was wondering if it would be worth the money to change from the stock fans to some Scythe Ultra Kaze's. I have 2 fans in the front, one on the side, one at the bottom, and one at the top. I would change the 2 front ones, the bottom one inside the case, and the side one? Is it worth the 40+ dollars, and how much of a difference will I see?

I changed all 3 of my stock 120mm fans to the Scythe Ultra Kaze 120mm fans (133 CFM) but I was also wise and bought a fan controller. At full-blast, these things are LOUD! I keep them low while online and just doing internet stuff, medium while I watch a movie or gaming, and high when benchmarking.

The slipstream Schythe fans are nice. The 110 CFM fans are loud enough to require a fan contoller. But the 68CFM fans are just right. Powerful, but not loud! If I where you, I would gut the factory fans that came with the case and use them as a standoff. By setting the fans 25mm back from the fan grill, you will reduce the fan noice considerably! I do it with all my fans now.

Here is a build I did using that method:

I did it here on the top

And I did it with the CPU cooling fan

I have since done it to the front and rear case fans.
