Can you tell if the chip has low VID just by looking at the #s on the chips ?

like if someone give you the numbers marked on the heatspreader of the chip..can you experts tell right away (or with little look up in the data base) if the chip has low VID ?

the reason why I am asking is because I found several sellers on craigslist are selling their old Q6600 chips they bought from 2007...

for example...this one http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/sys/734281972.html

You would have to compare the batch number of the chip to a spreadsheet on chips from that same batch, and onto what VID they have.

I don't know where said spreadsheet is, but I'm sure someone will post a link (I've seen it before, but I don't know where it is on OCN).

I think chips that are older are going to be decent, recent batches of chips have been real ****ty. My friends Q6600 from March has a 1.25 VID.

I just bought a Q6600 today the batch# starts with a 7 and it was made this year in February and the vid is like 1.2375, my friend bought a Q6600 two days ago and the batch# starts with a 8 and it was made 1 or weeks after mines in march and his vid is 1.35 he can only do 3.4, I just bought it so I dont' know what my max is I know I can boot to vista with 4ghz but can OCCT at 1.6v but I think it might be my power supply since it's only 400w Enermax Liberty and I already have a overclocked 4850 lots of 120mm fans leds and other stuff.

lowest possible vid for a Q6600 is 1.2

What bearing does the VID have on the chips performance? My e4300 (lol) has a VID of 1.325v.... And what does VID mean? Voltage stock it runs at?

Yes. The higher it is, the more voltage it needs to run at a given clock, thus reaching its voltage limit sooner. If you have a chip with a 1.325VID, it will wall at around 3.4Ghz. If you have one with around 1.25 or you might hit 4Ghz.
