Well, first of all. I want to start out by thanking the overclock.net community and members . By joining this forum, you guys have inspired me to try and mod my case, which i have never done before. Oh and also, i borrowed alot of ideas from other rocketfish case mods from this forum, and i thank those people who gave me the ideas

I started on a worklog, but i posted in a different forum. I'll move it here now too, hoping you guys can give me some additional ideas/ insights/ tips.

I'll just copy and paste what i wrote on that forum to here if you guys don't mind

So how do i start , lots of you guys knew about my major air cooling overhaul on my old thermaltake tsunami case. But even tho i did those mods, it still didn't satisfied my desire for a Lian-Li case. Since my bank account aren't exactly friendly with me atm after i dump close to $2k this month for a computer upgrade, getting a true Lian-Li case is out of the question. The case i wanted cost upwards of $300, so i decided to do it the "Ghetto" way yet again .

I went to best buy's today and picked up a Rocketfish case, this case is pretty much a rebranded Lian-Li PC-A71B which is listed below @ newegg. $259 list price
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811112144

This rocketfish MSRP is about $200 and went on clearance for $129. Although its suppose to be $129, many people are getting it for $50-$75. I took a trip to best buy and VOLA, i picked one up for $49.99.

Now all i need to do is go crazy with my dremel on this case ^_^

Mods that i'll probably end up doing.
  • Cutting a hole for a long retangular hole on top panel with rounded corners to mount a tinted acrylic window w/ 2x 120mm blow holes (+uv lighting), or add a rad grill like this http://www.frozencpu.com/products/26...0c95s519#blank to mount the fans + future proof if i ever decide to go water cooling.
  • Cut holes on the mobo tray to run cables underneath for wire management, since this case have absolutely no place to hide the cables.
  • Drill holes to reverse/ move up the HDD cage to make the HD face the other way (so no exposed cables)
  • Drill a bottom intake hole (120mm)
  • Drill hole on side panel to mount a tinted acrylic window for mobo area only (no powersupply or 5 1/4 bay area), and ofc add uv lighting
  • Mount a aluminum/acrylic to separate the two levels on the mobo (sort of like this case here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811112170 )
  • Somehow find something to replace the stock case feets. I'm thinking wheels :/ (The stock rubber ones are horrible, can't keep the case from rocking)
  • Add a fan on side panel to blow air @ vga card area, and add 1x 120mmfans in 5 1/4 bays
  • Modder's mesh on opposite side of case for HDD area ventilation.
  • Maybe 2x Handles like these Sound]http://www.mnpctech.com/BlackRecessedHandles.jpg
  • Sound]Sound dampening material everywhere (except areas with windows/ blowholes)
So far, thats all i can think of atm, I'll be starting on this project tomorrow, Will probably be two weeks till i finish modding, if not more. Any input on this project are welcomed. Pics will be updated as the project progresses

Heres several pics of my stock Rocketfish case.

The Rocketfish Box (See front here)

My old Mid-tower vs the Full-tower Rocketfish (Giant by comparison)

Back view (again another size comparison, that tv in the background is a 32" lcd, this case is about the same size

Front View with Door opened

Inside view of the case

And btw i hope you guys like these treads that i made, Makes this part of the forum a little more interesting

First off, thanks for all the praise all <3. And now ladies and gentlemen, make i present you...

Worklog: Day 1 (Just a little update )

I didn't do as much as i wanted to do today, But oh well, first step into my project. Anyway... So right after i got off work this afternoon, i drove over to home depot to pick up a crappy dremel (my dad lend his dremel to a friend of his, which never returned it -_-) couple pieces of acrylic panels, along with some 36tpi jigsaw blades to cut them with. Also picked up a pack of corner braces to mount my middle divider when i get a hold of a piece of stainless steel from the shop.

Got home and decided to start on the top panel first, i couldn't decide whether to put a window on top or a rad grill to futureproof if i ever decide to go watercooling. So i thought of this, Cut out the size for a rad grill, but put the acrylic panel on in the mean time

And heres a little sketch of what the top could look like if i mounted 3x 120mm fans.

Hope you guys enjoy till my next update xD
Hmm why is my message too short

Didn't have much time today, but i did start work on the side panel.

My tools of choice, Bosch jigsaw and Dremel 100 series (glad i pick up this crappy one for $29.99 and didn't buy the XBR 400 series for $99.99. This dremel can cut thru this case like hot knife thru butter. xD)

Lines drawn on panel, the inner square is a practice run (I'm a first time modder, so don't want to mess it up)

Jigsaw chewing thru my panel

Ahh... finally done cutting

Damn.. look at that nice cut B)

Now i just need to wait for my c-channels to arrive via mail. Couldn't find these damn things anywhere, Lowe's, and Home Depot don't carry them.
I'll stop by Wal-Mart tomorrow to see if i can find a Mesh trash can that i can cut up for my side panel. This site sells them, but freaking expensive http://www.mnpctech.com/moddersmesh.html
I rather pay $1.99 for a black mesh trash can . Also need to get some nuts and bolts to mount my acrylic panel on.. can't believe i forgot to buy them yesterday while i was at home depot. Stupid brain :bonk:

First of all, i need to say this. Mcmastercarr.com is the ****. I placed an order for some u-channels late last night, by late i mean like 2 in the freaking morning. AND THE U-CHANNELS ARRIVE TODAY ... They shipped it via same day mail, and only charged me $4 for shipping. Not to mention they sell it cheaper then anywhere else.

Anyway....
Again due to time restraints, i didn't get much done. Heres pic of few stuff i did.

Installed the u-channels on my side panel. It looks freaking sweet now

Picked up my piece of stainless steel sheet for my divider. btw look at the size of that sheet ROFL. I don't have to worry about messing up now, b/c i prob have enough to make 50 of them.

Cut out my top panel, this don't look as good as the cut i did on side panel

Putting u-channel didn't turn out to work quite that well. Meh i got some modding to do before it'll fit right <_<

And comes tomorrow, i'll probably put the acrylic panels on using these instead of nuts and bolts. Watch the tut video here http://www.mnpctech.com/Computer_Case_Window.html and it seems like this tape works quite well. save me some work so i don't have to drill :evillol:. Only downside is that either Home Depot nor Lowe's carry these "Industrial" grade tape, yet i find that in the hardware section at wal-mart

Wow, this project isn't taking as long as i thought it would take me. I havn't finished yet, but i feel like i can finish this within the week ^_^. I got more spare time today then usual, so i did a bit more

Time to mount my piece of acrylic and mount it on my side panel, i use 3M brand Scotch #4010 Clear mounting tape.

Looks so pretty with the window finally mounted (I know, its hard to see the acrylic panel :lol. With the panel out of the way, now i just need to wait to get my wire mesh for my HDD/ PSU tunnel.

Holy ****, this tape is stronger then i thought

Mounted the window on my top panel too (notice how i had to nip the u channel to make it fit right )

Moving on to cut my piece of case divider, lol at how little i use from that sheet

Bah, now i finally learned my lesson. "Measure twice and cut once". zzz i cut it 22 7/8" instead of 21 7/8" :wallbash:

Testing to see if the divider fits right

Marking lines on the divider, holes for cable management

Same thing on mobo tray

Getting ready to move my HDD cages

A little preview of what my finish product may look like :evillol:
I'm loving this mod

Worklog: Day 5

Day 5 it is... And i want to start out today's worklog by venting -_-. I ordered some parts for my project from coolerguys.com about 4 days ago, they shipped it out the next day i order, and i finally got a tracking number via email today. Went to check to see if it'll be here by this tuesday and guess what i found out...

My order won't be here till July 7th.. thats F***ING TWO FULL WEEKS :fume:. This is definitely stalling my project

Psh.. now im done venting, lets show you what i ordered. I got the EX-33 to mount in my 5.25 bays for another intake fan. I won't be using the harddrive racks, gonna take those off. Only reason i got this instead of the Scythe Kama bay for $10 cheaper was b/c this grill has the "Lian-Li" brand engraved in it. That's just pure sex , so hard to pass by. And i decided to go with red cc cathodes instead of UV lights, there isn't much in my case that's UV reactive so meh... also got some sound dampening material, couple of grills and two more fans

Lol, lets get back on track now . I got my divider mounted and got u-channels running around the most part. Not sure if it help, but the rubber on the two ends may help neutralize vibrations.

Few of the bolts holding the divider in place

Cut out the holes on the mobo tray finally, i drew those marks like 3 days ago

Same thing for the PSU/ HDD tunnel

Went out to Wal-Mart to pick up my ghetto "Modder's Mesh". It was listed $8.94, but when they rung it up, i only had to pay $4.75 total  If i got the mesh from this place http://www.mnpctech.com/moddersmesh.html It would cost me upwards of $30 for the same amount of mesh. Not to mention i have to paint them black to match my case , which my cheapo trash can already is ^_^. Oh and btw this trash can is made by Rubbermaid. I only using the finest parts for my case

Outline for side panel mesh

Drew the outline on my side panel for the mesh

Bah lines cut... but i messed up again -_- i forgot to give clearance for the inner frame support beam >_<

Trying to hide my mistake with u-channels lol.. that helped a bit :evillol:

Now letting my mesh to sit overnight with some weights on it to straighten it out. (Notice outline on opposite case panel in the background) Thats gonna be mesh too.

My project so far from a rear corner view

Side view

That's it for today, I'm really enjoy doing this project. Lets see what i've knock out from my original plan. :baby:

  • Maybe 2x Handles like these [URL=http://www.mnpctech.com/BlackRecessedHandles.jpg
  • Sound dampening material everywhere (except areas with windows/ blowholes)
That leaves me only bolded items left. . Looking at that list, i'm pretty sure the bottom intake hole and the handles are not going to happen due to space issues. That leaves me with
  • Sound dampening material
  • Vga area blow holes with fan
  • fan in 5.25 bay
  • and feets.

The first three will be done as soon as my order arrives in two weeks :wallbash: and feets, i'm thinking about using these http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=4407 Any opinion/input on these? I don't know if i want to spend that much money on feets, but if majority of the people here say it looks good, i might do it

I also found these feets http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=21103 they're alot cheaper then the ones above, i like the casters above, but the price on this one is very tempting.. T_T ISO OPINIONS PLZ.

Phew.. long worklog today. Hopefully i'll have the mesh installed tomorrow
