Do you have a fan mounted to the cooler or is that 80mm just pointing at it? I have a 92mm mounted to my plus and was thinking of doing the same with the GT. Oh, and did the ram sinks stay on pretty well?

No, it's just bad cooling.

Remember that the HD4850 has more than twice the shaders and a single slot cooler. It's amazing they run at only 80C loaded. Even so, 80C is hardly too hot for these or any graphics card. Remember the X1900 series?

Wow Mootsfox! Nice hacksaw LOL! I hope I don't have to hacksaw my 4870, but I refuse to have a card running 75+ degrees at idle. Thanks for the link and pics, bro.

theres another thread that just opened where you can change your fan speed manually with CCC profile with some minor edits.

http://www.overclock.net/ati/350972-...50-4870-a.html

I'm now at 50% fan speed and 46C idle and 60C load on stock coolers.

Thanks for the link. I'll for sure try that until my GT arrives and I can really make that thing blow ice cubes!

Microman, what's your freaking problem dude? I am not dependent on other people to fix my cooling problem with my gpu when I have one. Just check my sig for the 8800 GT Accelero thread I did. Also, I have been working on another thread about how the 4870 performs in games, which you can also see in my sig. Plus, my load temps only went up 6C under load and I have not expeirenced any problems. I don't have unlimited time to devote to making sure my gpu is at an acceptable temp for you... I can worry about that later. People in this forum wanted some GAMES tested... NOT benchmarks, and that is what I have spent my time doing since I got my 4870. As far as this thread is concerned, the guy asked about what idle temps we are getting. Why don't you go play in the road until you can be helpful to this thread.

Oh yeah, I don't care who you are or how good you are, I don't want or need your advise.
