[Nordic] Nvidia desperate for 55nm GT200 - Page 5

I would beg to differ than graphics cards are more advanced than CPU's.

I think that the 9800GTX and the 9800GTX+ are going to be very competitive with the 4850. In many cases it depends on the the performance you are looking for (9800GTX+ versus 4850 and 9800GTX+ SLI versus 4850CF is a BIG difference), what kind of hardware you already have, and what games you play.

If you already have a Nforce motherboard (I pity you) and you are looking for high end performance SLI 9800GTX+ is the way to go.

If you don't have a Nforce motherboard and you are looking for high end performance CF 4850's is the way to go.

Then of course CF scales better than SLI in some games and vice versa. So what games do you play?

You point is valid that the 4850 does a lot better in ETQW than the 9800GTX+, but they are both over 60FPS and this is at 1920x1200 at 4X AA. Whats the difference?

The 9800GTX+ will consume less power than the 4850, and this may be important to you.

I would never consider, and never recommend that someone chooses their videocard based on speculation of future drivers. This is foolish. Drivers never live up to their hype.

The 4850 is a good card, no doubt. What I am trying to get at is that it isn't as simple at you make it to be. Someone who buys a 9800GTX+ is not inherently a fanboy, and I lose respect for you and anyone else who uses "fanboy" as an arguement.

People shouldn't forget about the 8800GT, 8800GT SLI, and 9800GX2 as well. They are priced competively.
well , thanks for your pity . i know, im disgusted at my self for grabbing this board and buying a bunch of blocks so i could watercool this thing when i should of went Intel chipset and could of saved some dough(aircooling works fine on those boards). but i didnt know 3 months ago that nvidia would start failing with these new cards.

<back on topic>
hopefully the 55nm revision is cheaper and runs cooler than what nvidia has out now. i suppose it should be to keep up with ATIs latest offering.

i think both the 9800gtx and 4850 are good buy's regardless, they are pretty equal. but at the moment, 4850's single slot coolers are not too impressive especially if you are looking to overclock. once the factory oc versions come out with new coolers, than it's a better buy.

All you need to do is buy some good cooling for it.
$194 for a 4850 and $35 for the DuOrb equals $229 which is the same price as the 9800gtx+ and most-likely much, much better.

lol i dont know dink. much, much better ?

cards are competitors and from looking at the benches they have very similar performance. even if the hd4850 overclocks better you wont see that huge of a difference.

with that said, i would grab a 4850 becuase of cost.

40% yeilds mean 40% are good for use in both the GTX 280 and GTX 260. Chances are, only 20% or less are used in the GTX 280.

The 9800GTX and + are great cards, definitely competitive within their price range. I am just so impressed with the 4800 series compared to the 2900 series (3800 series being what it should have been) that I can't help but recommend them.

There are two reasons at this particular moment that I own the 9800GTX... the first- I live about an hour from evga and they have amongst the best customer service imo, and step-up which I have taken advantage of several times. The second reason is more petty... I like a black PCB. I am seriously drooling over the 4870X2, and if some more of the mainstream resellers go the way gainward did, I'll almost certainly be buying that card.
