E7200 with 1.100v VID, and its only going to be clocked to 3.6GHz...what a waste

So I am building an E7200, DS3L and 3870 system for my GF's dad. I talked to him about OCing, and he said to go with a moddest OC of 3.6GHz. So after I installed everything, I set it to 3.6GHz with 1.264v vcore. Then I ran CoreTemp and saw the Vid is 1.100v !

What a waste of a potentially high OCing CPU!!!

I might RMA my CPU and just run with my e2160 for a while.

I mean with such a horrible VID the only way I can go is down right?

I think 3.8GHz with 1.3v is pretty good. But I've been is your position before with a Q6600. Except I got a low 1.25v Vid, yet still couldnt break 3.5GHz with the CPU. So do what you have to.

I would buy another and sell that one. If you play around witn it, you could have a proven overclocker that would be worth more to someone else.

OT, I had to drop my OC to 3.5 on the Q i got from you. Seems the summer is a bit too warm and, seem like after installing vista, my OC is not as stable anymore. I am loading in th mid 60's when folding as it is. I may be in the market for a Q6700 in the next few months if I can find one. i am jealous of all the 3.9-4.0 OC's I have been seeing

I have a VID of 1.325 but I'm able to do 3.6 ghz with 1.472 vcore. Theres quads out there with a lower VID that can't do 3.6. VID isn't always everything when it comes to overclocking, but it gives you a good understanding of what you can expect with the cpu.
