Crossfire 2x 3870's or one 4850?

Thread Starter
I'm in a position to get two used HD3870's for crossfire for about $180.
Same price as for one new HD4850.
Is this better than one HD4850 or HD4870?
TIA.

4850 hands down, cheaper, better performance, less wattage used than having Xfire, cooler components etc etc. Its a no brainer.

Some 4850 are $149 with rebate.

Yeah if you don't already own the 3870's hands down go with the 48xx series.

I have 4 3870's so going to stay with them..

I agree, get the 4850, u will have the option to CF it later on. Truth known, that is why the 2 3780's are up for sale to get a newer card once sold lol.

After this article I've found CF 2x 3870's is as good or better than 1x 4850 and on par with 4870.
Albeit there's more expansion and faster memory with newer card.

38xx=320 stream processors and GDDR3 mem. 48xx= 800 stream processors and GDDR3 mem. If you were to add about $100, you can get the 4870 with GDDR5 mem. Still go for the 4850. More future proof and still much better than the 3870x2.

Stil better due to the fact you can add another later versus you'd need a 3-4 PCI-e slot mobo to tri or quadfire the 3870's later. Also, the 3850 would be new vs. used.

3870X2 is on par with 4870. Selling 2x 3870's and get 4870 is probably the way to go.

Exactly, get the 4870 if possible. The 480 extra stream procesors will take you further (and for longer) than the 3870 combo.
