Asus M3R32-MVP HT-LINK Problem

post #1 of 10
Thread Starter
Hi,

This is my first post and I'm new to the whole over clocking business.

After reading through a few guides I went ahead and got cracking with my system.

These are my specs:

Asus M2R32-MVP
AMD X2 5200+ 2.6Ghz
Elexir 1GB DDR2 @ 333MHz
ATI HD2600XT
Vista 32Bit

However I have reached a brick wall, these are my overclocking settings:

FSB - 250
CPU Multiplier - x11
Core speed - 2750
HT Link Multiplier - x4
HT Link Speed - 1250
Ram Speed - 392Mhz
Core Vol - 1.4

My problem is that no matter what I set the HT Link Multiplier to, the result always comes out as if the HT Link Multiplier is set to 5.

If my calculations are correct I should be getting a HT Link Speed of 1000.

I'm I missing a setting somewhere that enables a manual overide to the HT Link Multiplier?

I should mention that I'm using manual overclock profile.

I don't want to push it any further as I hear that HT speeds of over 1100 cause unstability. Everest tells me I can push the core to 3000 and the mem to 677Mhz and I would like to see if I can squeeze a little more out of the system.

Any help would be great!

Welcome To OCN Valaukar =P

hhmm i got that problem when i was using BIOS 1009 and 1101
you should use BIOS 804, it's the best one and the ht link is unlock =]

This may be true for some boards but others are stable @ HT speeds as high as 1500MHz.

Thanks for your reply guys, the bios version mentioned does it support vista?

I remember I had to update my bios for vista to work with this board, if I use BIOS 804 will it cause problems with this?

Thanks again.

i dont know if that bios would work for vista, but it's worth a try

Valaukar, I believe BIOS 0804 will allow you to install Vista and not give you any problems.
Did you have troubles exceeding past 1250mhz HT? It's been said that AM2 processors overclock well between 1200-1400HT. Is your 250HTT * 11x OC stable?

Let us know if 0804 works

Good luck

I have just gotten some new bios chips allthough the place sent me 2 with the 1101 bios, at the moment my settings are:

FSB=255
Multi=11
HT Link=x2

Results...

CPU=2810
HT Link= 1275
Memory @333MHz = 400MHz

My rig is stable with these settings but I can't push it any further with this bios version, an extra 5 FSB and vista won't load.

Any one have any suggestions? I'm trying to get one chip replaced with a 0804 version as downgrading blew my last chip

Valaukar, reflashing to a older version BIOS bricked your chip? This process is usually painless and doesn't cause any problems. How did this happen?

Good luck

It was my first time doing it and I think I may have had the system overclocked at the time. I have read up some ways of doing it using Afudos.

I bought two new chips so I can try again and if I fry one then I have a replacement.

Shall let you know how I get on....
