That's really high, but I hit 130C w/ a Celeron. I OC'd it from 2.0 all the way to 3.8. It booted into windows, then crashed. I reset the bios, and then it ran fine for a week. Then it died. Lol, it was a school pc, so oh well!

My mobo wont even boot without the CPU fan spinning, and cuts the power to the system if the cpu hits 85c, this could have been prevented, but I don't think it has done any damage.

More proof of just how hard it is to kill a Q6600. I think if it was damaged you would already be having additional problems. I did someting similiar years ago with a video card fan. The card still lives and I bet the CPU will be fine. Good luck.

Peace

I'm on the computer right now, and it survived 2 hours of Crysis.

It's fine.

Yeah, this isn't too big of a deal, it has happened is some form to just about everyone that builds computers at some point. A few months ago I was installing my fan controller, and I had the molex plug unhooked for my water pump. When I plugged it back in it didn't go in right and pushed 1 of the pins out. I booted up and had all kinds of distortion on the screen (I have my pump in the loop too) and then it shut down on me. I pulled the plug as fast as I could and fixed the issue ASAP, and have not had any issues with the GPU or CPU since. They are usually more durable than the companies will let you know

my TRUE on my q6600 runs fine without the HSF running... (at stock temperatures that is)

i had my pc running for weeks without the heat sink fan on my ultra 120 extreme running and my temps were only a few degrees above normal.. 35-40ish idle and 37-42ish load.

guess you need a better heat sink or need to reseat it...the fan doesn't help 70 some degrees i don't think... i could be wrong though

It's the stock heatsink. He isn't overclocking, there is no need for him to.
