E8xxx question

Thread Starter
Alright I'm about to get a new CPU now I don't know which is really the best deal.
I could get the E7200 which is the gimped version of the E8xxx series but I really want to go for the E8xxx. So any idea which of these E8xxx overclocks the best?
I have my mind set on a E8500 as of now but I'm not sure if thats worth it. I could be fine with a E8400 or a E8200 even.

From what ive gathered (which could very well be wrong) is that the 8400 is the better overclocker for the price/performance. Ive got mine at 3.9 1.36v stable. Cant hit 4.0 yet , will probably try it when its old and tired , and ramp up the voltage.

In the 45nm information thread, several people hit 4.0 GHz on air with an E8400. I hear the newer a processor is, the less likely it is to overclock well. I believe most people reach 3.6-3.8 GHz with stock voltage on the E8400. I don't think reaching for the E8500 is worth it for an extra multiplier option, but that's just me.

Yeah, most people agree that the extra .16GHz and multi isn't really worth the extra $50 or so, the E8400 seems to be the best bet. Also, what do you mean that new CPU's don't OC as well? You mean like the Q6600's where the latest batch wasn't doing so hot, or just as a single unit ages it OC's with more success?

I've heard the earliest batches overclock the best and newer ones usually don't overclock as well. Just like what you said about the Q6600. This is only what I've read on the forums here, though.

I've been runnin @3.6 since the day I got an e8400, on stock voltage. Ive heard that anything over that usually doesnt make a diff anyway.
