i have a amd athlon 2600+ it is ildling at 38 do you think it is safe to overclock at all? and if so anyone want to guide me through it

Idle temperatures mean nothing. Load the cpu up and tell us what it's at. My guess is it will be 50+, which is not that bad for an athlon.

You can use programs like 3DMark06, Prime95, Orthos, or a graphically intensive game to load your CPU.

Everest Ultimate is a nice program to load your CPU out with. Thats what I use and it works well

Try 10-20 mins in orthos for a more accurate temp read, 52 isnt all that bad though, what i get running a media player on a very hot day.
