Agreed. Those mesh and honeycomb grills are horrible. They increase case noise considerably. My exhausts used to always make whistling sounds. I cutout all grills on my case and replaced them with the thin wire type ones. Huge improvement. I find the S-Flex still has considerable motor noise at higher RPM.

I agree with you 100% on the Slipstreams and S-Flexes as I had the same results/feelings on them when I tested, but I slightly disagree with you on the Ultra Kazes. I agree that the UK 2000 is the best balanced one of the three, but you should be able to run the 2000 & 3000 upto about 1600 rpm before the noise get's bothersome...but it may all be due to your case/case build material.

Also on the UK 3000, I was able to undervolt mine fine and did not get any clicking noise or run it at full throttle without too much droning or whinning (I hate whiny fans). I'm wondering if the clicking/motor noise you encountered was due to a slightly bunk fan or maybe the type of fan contoller you used.

I'm curious if anyone else has encountered clicking when undervolting a UK 3000...anyone?

Anyways, good read sunburn39....+rep fo sho (for sure!)
I get the ticking, but I only hear it when the side panel is off and all fans on 50%. As soon as I stick the side back on it blocks those frequencies.

Always feels right to have my advice achoed around the place

Alarmingly short-lived? 3 years is plenty.

And about being on par with a panaflo....ehhh...around 30dba 65cfm for the Panas, compared to around 33dba 87cfm for the UT's.

I think i will go to S-flex 1200 rpm for the s1
Well, i'm thinking that if i have 2 fans to 1600rpm and 2 on 2000rpm i will hear the same sound with an 1200 rpm sflex on the s1 than 1600 rpm. right? Don't know if i should buy the 1200 or 1600 rpm, i'm rpm-db noob

Go with the 1600rpm, if you notice any difference, go work for the marines, they are in need of organic beings than can hear terorists from within the mountains.

That said, what the guy did was remove the ugly grill on the case and replaced it with a better one.

A bit like what I did although I did not replace it.

That's their average time. The actual fail rate likely varies one or two years.

And as for the fans, I'm not talking about their dbA ratings, I'm just talking subjectively. At 2000RPM my Panaflo H1 is quieter to my ears that my Ultra Kaze 2000. Performance is pretty much the same though.

Near as I can tell it's about the same as a 38mm thick Panaflo at the same RPM. Cools a CPU exactly the same anyway.

At 1900rpm, you will hear them over the other fans. I would stick to the 1600rpm, it's plenty enough cfm. However, if the budget allows, you can go my route and get all Ultra Kazes along with a Rheobus Extreme fan controller. I thought at first I was going to start off gradually with 'ok' fans, but I realized in the end that's what I was going to get anyways so I went for it right away

The photo adrienspawn posted is exactly what i did, except I replaced it with a wire grill afterwards. You can just use wire cutters. You'll notice quite a difference in sound once they're removed.

I would stick to the 1600rpm for the S-Flex. At 1900rpm they're going to get loud and you're better off with other options at that noise level. If these are case fans, I would check out the Scythe Slipstreams as well. As someone mentioned, it's best to try them out and see what your ears like. Everyone's opinion of silent/loud is going to be quite different.
