Oh hell no, don't say something that you know nothing about. Chemical and nuclear reactions are different. Chemical is the moving, formation, and sharing of electrons between atoms, affecting their electrostatic force (which is weak compared to the nuclear force) while nuclear reactions (nuclear bombs and reactors) use the changing of the nucleus itself (protons and neutrons) which are held together by the nuclear force. Sorry to get all educational about it but I've been going to school for this exact thing for some time.

Anybody read the Stephen King book "The Mist"? The movie also came out a few months ago. In the book anyways, what caused the mist with deadly creatures in it, was because there was a secret army/military experiment called the Arrowhead Project, where they were smashing/splitting atoms. They opened a portal to another realm and screwed over the world.

So why not just have the crazy guy who wants to destroy the world press the button? Wouldnt that make you feel better instead of a scientist?

its going be epic, the portal will send a rift between bubble universes and send a high-energy signal
soon other alien civilizations will attempt to contact us, one will send us a a particle which at first will be thought to be a violation of the laws of physics, since matter was created from the collisions of two particles
however a scientist will find out that is a message communicating in prime numbers
then another alien species is going come and kill us with nanomachines, especially little bitty gray ones that fly around and cause instant death
two scientists will then use the collider to to create a localized field of high energy which will disrupt our bubble universe and reset it back to before we made an initial link between other bubble universes, then shutting down the collider
and no one knows any better of what happened...

Somehow I have to think that if they manage to form a small black hole the threat of a lawsuit will be pretty far down on the priority list.

When it comes to this thing my reaction is "So there's no chance that you could in fact lose control of the reaction and destroy the planet?"

White Coat guy:" That's so unlikely-"

Me: "But it's possible, and you're still doing it?"

WCG:"It's so improbable that -"

Me:"But it's possible and you're still going to do it you blockhead."

Et cetera, et cetera.
