One 4870 or 2x4850 in CF?

With MiR it ends up being around the same price, what seems to be the best bang for the 300 beans?

I think you should get the 4870 as you can get more of them later on if you want/need to.

Honestly I don't have much of an intention of Crossfiring 4870's. I just don't need that much juice. I run 1680x1050 and see 4870's in CF as overkill.

yeh but this community runs on overkill, plus you never know what game may come out and require that extra bit of juice, i also game at 1680x1050 but i'm still thinking of going 4870 or 4870x2

id go for 1x4870. Then you can upgrade to 2x4870s if you need to.

More expensive to upgrade from 2x4850s

Get just the one 4870. one 4850 is doing me fine for 1920x1080. I run Mass Effect, STALKER, and WoW all on their highest settings at that resolution. I don't have Crysis anymore but it used to run the same as STALKER so if it's any indication then I should be doing good on Crysis too.

4870 for 300$ is the best bang for your buck.

i think that if you're not going to upgrade for a while you should go 2 x 4850 but if you plan to upgrade in the nearby future get a 4870 so that you can add another for some crossfire goodness in case you need the extra juice.
