Some questions about a new build i can't answer

The more I've read and compared products, the more i've come to see the importance of certain elements in what i need in my build, but i also now have a few questions i can't answer as far as the right equipment that will get me there.

Primarily I am building a gaming board. I'm going with a single HD4870, but will add another when the price drops. So I want a crossfire capable mobo. Do I spend a little extra for an x48 board or do the x38 boards that enable x48 do? I want RAID and a great board for overclocking.

The boards recommended here (and i like) also end up being split down the ddr2 and 3 line. I see that gamer builds are recommended to ddr2 as along with processor op being higher, games don't take advantage of quad at this stage. i would prefer not to change my mobo and am thinking quad and thus ddr3 for this reason (would prefer to just upgrade processor first when it came to it)? can i oc a quad board with say a q6700 as well as i can a duo with an 8500?

i've seen a lot of good memory recommendations for ddr2 but am not sure if i went quad what ddr3 would help me achieve my aim.

boards i have been looking at
asus: maximus formula/extreme/rampage formula, p5e deluxe, p5e64, p5e3 premium
dfi lp boards

thanks in advance

Crossfire with NForce Nvidia chipset will not work. You may want to reconsider your GPU or switch over to AMD. DDR3 is too expensive right now. I'd wait.

EDIT: Looks like those boards don't use the nforce chipset so you should be okay.
