AMD to Intel Quad - Advice or Guides??

Thread Starter
All:

Next week I'll be upgrading my signature system to the following:

- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Kentsfield 2.66GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor
- ASUS Maximus II Formula LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
- CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

I'm pretty sure a complete Windows re-install is in order. Are there any other tips or guides you can provide or point me to? Did I make the right memory choice or could I have done better for OC'ing? THANKS for any input.

I would not buy AMD's Phenoms, they overclock terribly. With the right cooling, you can get a Q6700 to 4Ghz, if you get a chip with a good VID.

Also when you buy a new motherboard, you need to reinstall windows.

Only advice I could give you is get ready for the AWESOME performance over the AMD.

A full reinstall would be in order, definitly. And that memory is a little pricey. Not saying its not good ram but you could get some that will perform just as well for about half the money. Unless your getting a super deal.

Welcome to the Dark Side!

No, you will need to reinstall Windows.

And yeah, if you want to get more than say 2.5Ghz, get a good heatsink.

No problem on the heat sink. I have an overkill water cooling setup which I will reuse. This Q6700 won't ever break a sweat. I got all components from The Egg. The memory I got an immediate $40 discount, plus another $30 mail in rebate. Plus I got a $50 mobo/cpu combo discount.
