SLI failed after few months. Anyone?

Thread Starter
Hi all~

I got this computer ~2 months (see my sig for specs~), everything's working fine, SLI 'was' doing a great job, CPU nicely OC'ed to 3.82Ghz, everything works fine.

After playing it around for ~1 month, horizontal "grey lines, with width more than an inch", starts appearing on fullscreen games (Cod4, crysis, TDU, even warcraft3), and it only happens when I enable SLI. I tried swapping cards, uninstalling drivers, but still no help. So I formated the windows partition, and fresh install XP. Problem solved....for another month.

Now, since yesterday, the same problem came back for revenge, so I did the same thing, first clean driver but didn't help, BUT now even formatting drive isn't helping !

Googled around, people usually solve the problem by reinstalling drivers (which doesn't work for me), or getting a new PSU (something like..not enough amps in each 12V). So anyone here has similiar problems?

I'm still deciding on getting a new motherboard, or just leave the extra 9600GT alone.. So..any help / advice / comment will be appretiated ._.""

(I'll try posting those screenshots if it helps.)

Rather unlikely it's your PSU - you have 60A on your +12v.
http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache...lnk&cd=4&gl=us

First I would try resetting the clocks to default.

Are your overclocks 24 hours stable in ORTHOS?

Have you tried unplugging your sound card to see if that's causing any complications? I'm not sure how it would, but comps can be weird sometimes.

The fact that reformatting used to solve your artifact problem suggests that it's driver corruption.. although why reformatting no longer solves the problem is not consistent. When you uninstalled and reinstalled new nvidia drivers, did you use driver cleaner pro? It's a program to completely clean your computer of any traces of drivers to ensure the new ones are installed correctly.

I gather both cards work separately fine, artifact-free in either PCI-e slot.. is it possible your SLi bridge is damaged?

Also, on a 15" LCD screen you probably are not benefiting much, if at all, from enabling SLI.

Thx for the reply~

I tried removing the soundcard, but no luck...
The e8400 at 3.82Ghz is stabled with prime95 ~ 10 hours. (I stopped the test after 10 hours.), and had restored all component to stock clock / voltage, but artifacts still here.
And I did use the Driver cleaner pro in safe mode to clean the drivers. (Well, formatting drive is still my favourite )

Is there any chance that overvolt the NB or HT damge the SLI controller? (or anything like that = =)
I was runing HT & NB with 1.32V.

I guess I better try buying the 9.99 SLI bridge before I go any further...( buying another motherboard...Orz)

Thx again

***UPDATE***

just bought a SLI bridge by artic cooling, replace my original one, but the same kind of artifact appears on games (cod4, wc3, tdu...etc)

Conclusion (so far):
1)both 9600GT works fine alone in both pci-e slots: so i'm pretty much sure that non of the pci-e is "broken"...Nor the 9600GT themselves.
2) Problem not caused by driver issues: since I've reformatted the HDD, still no luck
3) Not SLI bridge problem: same problem occurs with a brand new bridge.
4) Not caused by sound card
5) Not caused by PSU

Possible cause:
1) Broken SLI connector on the 9600GT (where you connect the sli bridge)...just guessing
2) Broken motherboard? a specific chip for controling SLIs= =??? (also guessing)

this is it, anyone please feel free to post any ideas that you can think of....
Thx

1) Drivers
2) Heat caused the board to warp
3) Your overclock became less stable because of #2

Thx for the replies.

Here's what I did just few moments ago.
1) Restore all to clock speed.
2) Clean driver, tried both 177.39 / 175.16 / the one that comes with the 9600GT(couldn't install 177.41)
But flickering still occurs.

NOTE* Things works fine in window mode ( Can play Crysis in window mode without flickering)
The flickering when on fullscreen is like this video :

(Not my video, and that guy is using a SLI laptop..)

Anymore ideas?

**UPDATE after...couple months ..Orz*****

The problem hasn't been solved.....I'm almost at the edge of giving up...The only suggestion I haven't try is "get a new LCD"...

But now I got another clue of why this problem exists.
I tried Counter Strike (1.6) today, with SLI mode : Force split screen, and I can clearly see that, the upper half is displaying normal graphics, but the bottom half is displaying "flashing graphic" (same as the youtube video on my last reply, but that flashing only occurs on the buttom part). However, when I do Force split screen SLI on Warcraft3, it flashes on the whole screen....

So that half flashing thing is definately the main issue, should I get a new motherboard then..? I suspect that some 'things' in the motherboard failed...?

(Method tried : New SLI link , Re-install driver, Re-format HDD, Re-sit display card, Re-arrange cards, Re-moved X-Fi...)

Cheers.
hi7

PS: sorry for bumping my own 'old' thread ._.""
