[EuroGamer] Valve: Why PC gaming is future - Page 3

consoles are more popular because they're becoming more idiot proof. You put the disc in and play. PCs might require a little know how and understanding of what you're playing on. Convenience of use and the friendliness towards soccer moms that want to play some wii or some exercise game is what's tipping the scales. Stuff like steam IS a step in the right direction though.

That's true, but it's not going to add up to billions and billions of dollars like everyone tends to think.

Crytek can cry all they want . I refused the free game coming with a part of my pc . Crysis for me is not a great game its 7/10 . Once again .. fun in game is not all about nice images.

Make a fun game with good online stuff and you gona sell . Make a super visual game .. lasting 6-7 hours and you gona cry at the gamers for not paying your bills .

I think that MMO subscriptions alone would, let alone the games sold via digital DL.

Did you not read the article? It flat out tells you that the "raw sales figures" are, for lack of a better word, inaccurate.

The market which has the highest sales is one thing.
The market which is the most profitable is another one.
PC have problem with piracy. Consoles have a problem with ROYALITIES.
The two companies who found a solution of the PC problem are Valve and Blizzard: they are not suffering from piracy AND royalities => They are profitable companies showing the way to the others...

Valve have had it right from day one. Only thing I'll disagree with is that they're untroubled by piracy. Ok, they may not be bothered by it, but it's still very easy to get hold of their games pirated.

SteamCloud is awesome, I'm getting sick of my own stupidity and forgetting to back-up my saves before I give my system the ye olde formatte.

EDIT:

This reminds me. I've formatted and need to redownload steam and get my 16+ games back!

The main issue, though, is that the majority of the games offered via Steam are heavily multiplayer oriented... and pirating those games seldom offers any sort of multiplayer support, except through virtual LAN software like Hamachi. Even then, though, you're looking at a very small community of people who do this.

IMO, it isn't very often worth pirating a game offered through Steam, unless you're purely in it for the single player.
