P4 2.8 Ht Northwood And Mobo ? Intell Dummy

Thread Starter
I have an old p4 Northwood with HT lying here and am looking for a mobo for this thing and I am a little confused. It has to have agp 4/8 and 184 pin ddr2. But when it comes to supported cpus all I can seem to find is Prescott / Celeron . Why? Is it because of the HT? I know absolutely nothing about Intel cpus/mobo's. but I can't just let this great ol cpu just lay here when my ol lady needs a desktop, know what I mean?? Thanks for your help. And will this work ok?? And just what does the HT do?

It should work fine. The main difference between northwood and prescott is 130nm vs 90 process. It could be a problem if the fsb of the cpu is 400. The motherboard only supports 533/800. Dont know what would happening if you were to put it in there.

Hey, it says DDR2 on that board? I did not know you could use DDR2 with a Northwood. I guess that is a plus of Intel not having the memory controller on the CPU.
Not a bad deal, for less than $100 you can have the MoBo and 2 gigs of memory (less than $80 if you don't mind rebates).

184 pin ddr2? no such thing lol.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813186129 thats a board that can work though. Ht= hyper transport = basically nothing that helps!

Is this a socket 478 or 775?
