Yep you put the drive in the 5.25" drive bay and use elastics to support it to reduce vibration. That's an easy way to silence it and it works well apparently.

The BEST way to do it is to suspend it in a 5.25" bay with some bungee cords and then put some sort of foam around it. You don't have to actually encase it in foam, just line the bay with it or something.

The Scythe enclosure works pretty well too, but you should only use it on an older drive that doesn't generate much heat.

I know it's only my HD because I unplugged it and jumped my PSU. I've seen a few 3.5" to 5.25" silencer/enclosure kits but there like $25+, I really don't want to spend too much money.

This is a free way to do it and it works 100% It only demands around 30minutes of your time and a little patience.

How to: Silence any HDD with 1$

*EDIT: @BLKKROW I haven't seen you linked the same thread

I have a server that has one loud HDD you can hear it plain as day. It isn't a mounting question or vibration. The motor has a real high whine to it. I was thinking of encasing it in a foamish box something of that sorts with a fan for some breathing.
