Trouble OC Q6600 to 3.6 GHz - Page 2

Thread Starter
I increased vcore voltage to 1.55v in bios, it shows 1.44v in cpuz, and now when I start my computer it loads the windows and as soon as I start prime95 heat test it restarts, so I don't know whats wrong

jesus man 1.55v is going to kill that processor. You should be able to get 3.6Ghz at 1.5v. That means its unstable if it restarts your computer.

I have no idea about the pencil mod as people on OCN are saying it voids warranty.

lower voltage immediately man.... 1.55 is too much! If I were You I would try to use Something like a Mod for My Mobo to minimize Vdroop.... you could Run a Test to check how your Vcore changes when you move from Idling to full load at a slightly lower OC. Could just be a droop as a result of some kinda weird mismatch in BIOS. Stay at 1.45 and Loosen your Timings on Memory a Little Further and See if that helps. What kinda voltages is your RAM on ? I dont know that Mobo so cant help further but in some motherboards you have to Manually Disable the Voltage Auto setting in BIOS to have the Vcore Changes reflect properly....

Thats all I got for ya....

Untrue with a good water cooling system 1.55 isnt to much. But with a vid over 1.3 you could be at the cpu's limit. If you get 3.6 be happy thats pretty much the limit for a Quad, imo

Never trust everest's core voltage. As t4ct1c47 said, use CPUZ or CoreTemp.

Please list your bios settings, ATM, I have my Q6600 OC'ed at 3,8, stable, but I'm on water doh.

That isn't true, you can have a chip running at 40C load with a VCore of 1.55 and still cook it over time.

I second that.

Chill out with the vcore or you'll be forking out for another processor soon.

completely agree.... thats what made me tell him to lower it in the first place ... take it from an electronics engineer man.... vcore seen on screen is not an absolute measure of how much stress your processor is under . its indicative at best.... You have Millions of transistors on your chip and when you increase vcore beyond a certain point . you are over-biasing everyone of them. When you over-bias too much, temps are the least of your worries... the biggest concern is destroying the p-n junctions on some vital transistors and if you do that.... your processor is cooked... so if you have too much vcore its important to run it in short bursts at most 7-10 hrs is the most ill give you on a Q6600 at a vcore of 1.60

The vcore is 1.384 idle and 1.288 with load...the vcore in bios is 1.45...any suggestions...everything is on auto in the bios atm beside 8 x 400 and vcore and vdamper.
