PCI-E helphelphelp!

Hello Everybody,

I'm a little confused. I'm getting an Ati X850xt in a trade, but I need a new mobo, and I just found out I need a new power supply. I knew I'd be getting a new mobo, but just found out that my PSU didn't have PCI-E connectors. Anyway, I can't find jack crap about the X850 xt, other than it's a definite upgrade from my 6600. The thing that I need to know is, the difference between PCI-E x1 and x16. Is the X850xt compatible with either of these three mobos, And which one would you recommend for me? I'll be keeping everything in my sig rig except for the 6600, PSU, and the mobo(obviously).

I'm really sorry about the wording of this post, but as you can probably tell, I'm furious.

Thanks alot everyone.

EDIT: This is the PSU I'll be purchasing. It should work well with everything else right?

While I know jack squat about any of those boards, you should generally avoid ECS boards. You should also avoid boards with onboard video, as they can cause instability during overclocking (though often you can disable onboard video completely).
You don't need a new PSU -You can get an adapter to change 4-pin Molex into 6-pin PCI-e. The 600w will be more than enough. Like this one.

Crap. I have the Coolermaster in my sig rig, don't I. Yeah. I do.

Well that's the PSU that I'll be trading for the X850xt, and the one I'm using now is a 500 watt. Where could I find one of these adapters? Would it be a good decision to get one of them, and just get the PSU some other time? I'm caught in the middle of many decisions to be made right now...

EDIT: Wait..I'm a moron. I NEED a new mobo. The X850xt is a PCI-E card. Well, what would you recommend for <70 bucks?

Newegg has the adapters. 500 watts will work in your sig rig. A Raidmax "Aurora" 580 watt PSU powers my sig rig no problem (and I've got a X2 at 3GHz, and 2 overclocked 7900's in SLI). I don't see why you would have a problem.

go with the ASUS board... though it has no 1x pci-e slot... that PSU will probably work fine as it has the same 6-pin pci-e power connector your card needs...

There are also adapters to convert standard 4-pin molex connectors into 6-pin pci-e, but unless you already have a beefy PSU, i'd suggest getting a better one...

Actually, there are certain OB Video MB available that do actually OC rather well... usually they are in the $80ish range though.
I do concur on the low end ECS boards though.

The below Gigabyte AM2/AM2+ actually OCs rather well even though it has OB video.
$79.99 + S&H

Most new cards will include the adapters but newegg has them. (4pin molex to 6 pin PCi-E)

I'm not familiar with that specific MB, but the TA770 is a good mid range OCer. That particular chip set is usually a bit fussy and a little slow to boot but still a good OCer. I have the Biostar TA770 A2+ so I do know the chip set first hand.

Well on a $70 budget, I'd recommend:

Asus M2R32-MVP Open Box motherboard - Crossfire Option ($69 shipped)
Foxconn 780G motherboard Retail - Onboard video is better than X850XT ($66 AR)

Other than those two options, I honestly don't know my AM2 enough to help. But those would be two very nice options to look into . There ARE SLI options, but I would personally rather stick with ATI Crossfire options at the moment though.
