I tried to say that all the people who sad the merge is a bad thing for AMD went wrong.
Many seen ATi close to death with the Geforce 8800 on market and the R600 waiting (and scoring bad in rumored benches).
While the Phenom was more far in development - no rumors on it's performance been there.
And the believe in another Hammer [;o)] made people think AMD would come back big.
So that time many said that AMD (already in the reds) should keep the money till Phenom hits the market and make them strong again.
Also those people said ATi would never come back to the performance market and AMD is putting money into a bottomless hole.
It went out to be the opposite.
ATi products helped AMD to stay liquid and may help to come back into black income numbers soon.
What happened without the merge are speculation, of cause.
But AMD is still sliding the edge and I think (fear) it would be even worse without the Radeon HD2000 (midrange!) / HD3000 / HD4000 income.
For a big Company it is better to spend many money once and gain a little income (to stay liquid) than the other way....
