Yes.

Especially considering Nvidias PhysX drivers artificially pump up their vantage scores. not to mention its nearly 3 months before the release of the 4870X2, so the drivers are still VERY immature, and X2 drivers are usually very complicated, so in 3 months time they should be that much better

Even if Nvidia drops the prices on the GTX 280, they will not be able to drop them low enough to compete on a price/performance standpoint.

A GTX 280 is what.. $650. The 4870X2 is suppose to be between $500-$550. Even if Nvidia manages some how to drop prices of The GTX 280 to $400, you are still looking at a price tag of $1100 for 2 4870X2's compared to $1200 for 3 GTX 280's. That is still a win for ATI in my book.

as mentioned b4, that score in vantage with dual 4870X2's was running on a phenom CPU and probably immature drivers. Imagine the setup on an Yorkfield at 5GHz+ and mature drivers.

Yep. As for the 280 to be as cheep as the 4870x2 will likely to be means nvidia will make little or no profit most likely.

The arguement anyone makes that this isnt a relevant comparison as the 4870x2 set up is "effectivly" four gpu's vs. three gpu's is a pos. As some one else said the 280's core is large enough to compare and on paper should be good enough. In my personal opionon its 1 pcb thus one card. The interface between the two cores on the card as another news thread as shown is so much different to the 3870x2's interconnect. The technology is such that it already is 15% (or higher) better than two 4870's in crossfire. That in itself shows it is much more than just "internal crossfire".

You'll see a lot of people changing back to ATi that's my guess. I know I will.

Guys this isn't about Nvidia fanboys defending themselves blindly...ATi for the most part has been out of the enthusiast video card race for a while but now with the 4800 its making Nvidia look like the amateurs with their ridiculous pricing and lack luster performance.

At the end of the day, Nvidia drops prices on its range of cards that directly compete with Ati`s and call it a day. Its simple economics and Nvidia lost its family friendly company status by all the money it made, turning them into M$. lol

This is why competition is truly necessary or else we would have Nvidia just pump out bigger, badder, and less bad ass cards ;p
