[TGDaily] Two R700's scores x12515 in Vantage - Page 9

There may technically be four GPUs, but the new proprietary interconnect that AMD/ATI developed specifically for this card prevents it from being classfied as "CrossFire-on-a-stick" in the traditional multiGPU sense which makes the 4vs3 GPUs mentality a bit inaccurate. Since the two "cores" are now communicating in a more meaningful way with an interconnect that is somewhere in the middle rather than at the end of the graphics pipeline, then R700 could be acting more like a single card rather than the all-in-one CrossFire/SLI packages we've seen previously. (ie even though 3870X2 & 9800GX2 were each single cards, they still functioned as if it were two cards in a typical CF/SLI setup, but this is no longer the case with 4870X2).

Because of this fact, it is much more accurate to view this as a comparison where 2 ATI cards are outperforming 3 Nvidia cards.

It's like claiming that phenom is superior to intel quad because they are "true quadcore". What matter is the perf in game at very high res. Period.
It's funny that you mention that because the same company has such different approaches to building chips. On the one hand, the CPU division is so bent on native designs and being stuck with a large complex die, yet on the other hand, the GPU division is going the complete opposite route via a "MCM" approach. Hope the CPU guys learn a lesson from the GPU guys. Maybe that PLX chip might come in handy for Fusion for inter CPU-GPU communication.....

When i said big deal 4 gpus can beat 3 i wasn't talking about the price diff but pure performance wise... so just think the big bad 4870 x2 will hold the end crown until nvida makes their 280x2 the cards great for the price but its not as strong as a 280 just wait until nvida updates if one 280 can do better then a 4870 and the 4870 is ddr5 imagine an nvida ddr5 lol [yes i no the ddr5 nvida card would be 5000$ but im talking performance]

Did he say he would do all those things if ATI got the performance crown back?

Let's see if he is a man of his word.
