Best @ 1680x1050?

Thread Starter
I pretty much have my heart set on the HD 4870, but I'm wondering if this is too much performance for a 22" monitor. I plan on playing RTSs and I'm told these are more CPU-intensive and less GPU-intensive. I believe games like WiC, C&C3 and possibly SC2 are changing this, though.

Is the 4870 the smart buy?

Side note: I plan on buying my video card as late as possible (Octoberish) so I might reach for the 4870X2 if it's less than $400. I'll definitely want a card that will last a while.

all current cards will of dropped in price by then as the new cards come out in time for xmas.

tbh mate you can never have too much power, yea you might only need 30fps but just because your getting 300fps now does not mean you will for long, even more so if you want it to last

as with all these new vga cards comming out lately, the gamming power for graphic is emproving and witch the new game will to, look at crysis as how much resources are use.
i think it would be a good choice for the 4870 or the x2 version if it meets you buget and timming.
good luck noob-d
