How to apply AS5 to 4850?

Thread Starter
A tutorial and pictures would be nice. Just ordered a Visiontek 4850, and I'm hearing idle temps peak at around 70C, and load hits 83C. Way to high for me, as I plan to replace stock gump. Anyone know if the simple mod will void my lifetime warranty? And if I do apply AS5, do you think its worth getting the MX-2 I've been hearing about?

The high temps are attributed to a ~20% fan speed, so just setting it to 50% or something should make it much cooler while keeping it relatively quiet.

well if u really want to use arctic silver on the gpu put a very tiny dot on the already cleaned gpu surface and spread it evenly with your finger provided you have a plastic sandwitch bag covering that finger then replace heatsink and bingo

I will try upping fan speed, and also the AS5 GPU mod. I might post a guide later when I get the chance to. Rep+ to all who replied

AS5 (in my experience) doesn't really do much compared to the stock thermal "paste". It might drop it by 1-2c but it might not drop it at all either.

If you do apply AS5 do it with a small drop and DO NOT spread it with your finger. Use a credit card or what I use, a plastic razor blade sharpened with very fine sandpaper.

Here is the best way so far to fix fan speed... No harm done, it is profile based so just changing profiles will let you play until you find speed/noise/temp that best works for you...
