Cant Overclock my Q6600 Help

Thread Starter
Hello all,

First off I tried to follow many guides and suggestions from forums and webpages, but i think i need a more personalized approach.

I want to get my Q6600 to at least 3.0 GHZ, and be rock solid stable.

My specs are: Q6600 (CPUZ says B stepping)/Arctic Freezer 7 Pro
(Default Idle 25C, Load 35C)
Motherboard- MSI P6N SLI platnium
RAM- Corsair DDR2 800
Rosewill RP 550 Watt PSU

So far i have gotten it to 2.6 GHZ Stable (FSB 1160) everything else default.
I am testing with the latest version of prime 95 (4 instances) for about an hour.

I have tried to set the FSB to 1333 which makes 3.0 GHZ (all else default) but the test fails in about 15 mins.. (core # 2 usually)

I have tried increasing voltage in the CPU all the way to 1.45 volts, also in the North and South bridges. Together and individually. I have my RAM set a 2.1V (manufacturer spec) and i do not have the ram/fsb synced

Can you guys help!??

Thanks Alot!
Fatty

Try linking/syncing your RAM. You will be underclocking your RAM but you won't see any difference in speed but should see a huge difference in stability.

How about your NB? have you changed the volts? I need to be at 1.45v for 3.0 or above.

maybe its the 650i chipset of your mobo is pulling you back. AFAIK 6xx nvidia chipsets are not known for quadcore OCing.

I really hope that is not the case.....
What Board would you recommend,
Requirements (SLI, digital optical out, no $200 mobo's)

Welcome to OCN, nickjnelly. Let's try underclocking to default settings and start OCing from there. Many people including me can OC Q6600 to 3.0GHz on default voltage and mem timing settings.

EDIT: Download and Post here:
CPU-Z
CoreTemp
HWMonitor

EDIT: Suggested Mobo under $200.
DFI x38 or P35 (little outdated) from newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136045 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136043

Asus Maximus and Gigabyte, you probably need to search in google.

Thanks

I will post results from those programs as soon as i get home.

Also can the DFI x38 board run 2X 8800GTs in (SLI).

Thanks,
