Cant Overclock my Q6600 Help - Page 3

It a G0
Did you install a new motherboard with an old OS install? Because first I'd say eliminate the software side of things before you go spending $ on hardware components.
I'd say reinstall windows, get the newest chipset drivers, direct x...the whole 9 yards.
oh yeah and run memtest...that will also single out the memory if it's faulty.

No it was a clean install....

I ran Memtest, and it froze at 34%, I removed a stick of DDR, and changed slots with the other one.

Ram Memtest again, ran through the whole test 100%

then I ran a full check disk scan, and it came out clean

Been running Prime 95 for about 15 mins, with no errors...

Right now everything is pointing towards, a RAM issue, be it a faulty stick or possibly a slot....

Added the stick I removed,

into a differnt slot, booted, ran prime 95 for 10 Mins no issues....

hmmm... I am going to return the PC to its previous settings

(all auto FSB 1160) 2.6 GHZ

But my goal is 3.0 GHZ,, what steps should i take next granted this step to 2.6 GHZ runs stable?

EDIT:
Ran memtest all checked out (Ram @ 2.1V 4-4-4-12 timings), Running Prime 95 all is good so far @ 2.6 (FSB 1160) default everything.

Couple of thing

the 650i Chipset hates Quad Cores you'll be lucky to push 3GHz without dropping your RAM.

I would run your chip at the same speeds as a Q6700 (2.66) You'll find it will be perfectly stable at that speed and the Motherboard can cope with it easy enough.

I run my CPU @ 2.69GHz (299x9) because I get BSOD @ 2.7GHz - 2.85GHz but if I OC to 2.9 or 2.95 it seems fine but I don't know if its stable plus I don't want to stress the old 650i Chipset.

I hope this help so just to re-cap
Overclock your Q6600 to the same speeds as a Q6700 (Simple maths 2667 / 9 = 296.333 FSB x 4 = 1185.33333 QDR) and run Vcore at 1.285 - 1.31Vcore

Damnit.. I should of done some more research on this board before i bought it... I have a G0 q6600 and can only bring it 2.66 GHZ....

Alright guys I guess the next step is what board can i get that supports SLI + Digital optical out that I can overclock my Q6600 like mad with. THAT WONT BREAK THE BANK.
