I think the issue is actually that the "future" of SSD has only been recent and has not been refined as much as CPUs and GPUs, which have gone under many revisions. For example, whatever the one university was that figured out how to get 1TB+ of data on a small SSD, and ultimately inexpensively.

This SSD power consumption makes me wonder this: Why is it that rotating several disks very fast uses less power than a simplistic, motionless chip/card? I have a feeling this "hoax" will eventually turn true. We haven't really even seen widespread consumer SSD's yet (within a reasonable price range).

Ah, so it does. Everywhere I've lived it goes "a couple" for two, "a few" for three, and "several" for four or more.

The point of Superfetch is that you reduce HDD utilization.

But I think we all know Vista isn't the OS to use if you are interesting in battery life.

The point of SuperFetch is to reduce load times. HDD utilization should be pretty much the same regardless of when the program is loaded.

It's useful if it guesses correctly. Of course this isn't a problem on a desktop, but since we're nitpicking about the effects on battery life...

Exactly, HDD usage will probably increase from loading programs that you don't end up using. Superfetch is meant for desktops with spinning drives where reducing load times is all that matters.

Because you only need to provide enough power to compensate for the lost inertia. Spinning up the drives from rest takes a lot of power (up to 30W for some drives) mainly depending on the size/weight/number of platters, but maintaining their speed takes very little.

Superfetch loads programs you use frequently. It doesn't guess what you use, you tell it by using it. You may not always use the programs it loads, but it doesn't guess.
