TRUE and Temps... - Page 4

Hi!

So be it. I've bought a Scythe Ultra Kaze 3000rpm fan to install it on my TRUE. It made no difference at all. I've torn whole system apart and I've made some pictures of my lapped IHS and heatsink. Here they are (I have no experience in photography, so they are no good):

I've put a metal washer to increase the pressure on the true:

I have decided to install the true so that the Ultra Kaze is blowing upwards, towards the two top exhaust fans (it should help to decrease the NB temps). Here is the promised picture from the inside of the case:

Intakes: 120mm front, 120mm bottom, 2x120mm left side
Exhausts: 2x120mm top, 1x120mm rear

The temps I got @ stock are not impressive at all: ~40°C at idle and ~65°C stress, at 24°C ambient. Anyway, I've decided to do some overclocking. I've ended up at 1,80@3,06GHz (340x9) with the vcore of 1,475V. The true remains cold at all times... And now I get ~44°C at idle and ~72°C stress. I'm going to leave it as it is, and buy a new processor in a while, at least the cooling system is ready to take something around e8400@4GHz...

And about that Scythe fan... I've also bought a Zalman Fan Mate to slow it down a bit. Is it normal that I get a buzzing sound when I turn the fan to less than 2000rpm? It's really annoying!

Heh, it's really funny: I've spent a lot of money:
- CM 690 case and case fans: 320pln (Polish money) ~ 142 usd
- TRUE - 180pln ~ 80 usd
- scythe Ultra kaze - 33pln ~ 15 usd
- sandpaper and thermal grease - 30pln ~ 13 usd

Makes a total of 563pln (248 usd), and I could have bought a 3,00GHz e8400 for 475pln (209 usd) and I think I'd be able to overclock it to 3,5GHz with stock cooling;]. Looks like I've made a great deal :]

is that e4300 a 45nm chip? If so isnt it just reporting the temps wrong until Intel tells us what it should be later this week?

well even the 65nm should gaing a little improvement from the info we are getting this week. It may still be a 65nm but it is one of the newer models is it not?

Well, the e4300 itself was one of the first C2D to come out;]. And I've bought mine about one and a half year ago. So I guess the problem is just the IHS not being soldered to the cores themselves, and I won't do anything about it, when I get some free cash I'll just sell it and buy something else. But - new GFX first (I'm looking at GTX260 or Radeon HD4870).
