2.1 Audio setup - Page 2

you could do a nice 2.0 setup for your price range that will blow any computer speakers away.

Take a look at some local hi-fi and mid-fi shops and see what their entry level bookshelves have to offer. spend $400 on monitors and $100 on an amp and you'll be all set. You can alway sadd a sub later.

That is my first recommendation, as well. You've got quite a budget available and should be able to secure some very nice gear.

However, if you decide that route is not for you, I also suggest the Audioengine A5s for an all-in-one setup.

I didnt consider the non-computer speakers route as I know nothing about audio setups, computer speakers are plug and play (im sure normal audio is aswell but i dont know what i need)

Is it as simple at 2 speakers + any amp?

In essence, yes. A local hi-fi shop will be able to give you specific info (as well as let you hear some quality systems).

T-amps are especially great for this purpose, especially considering the form factor.

Just a heads up, I do believe that AV123 is offering a -$100 discount on their $300 X-LS encores.
http://av123.com/component/page,shop...art/Itemid,37/

They are also offering a 30 day risk free trial period, so I'd say try them

They also cut their price on the X-Sub (38 lbs... lawl.)

Thanks for the suggestion but they are some of the ugliest speakers I have ever seen

EDIT: hmm, I just saw the colour options, maybe nice in just black

EDIT2: I'd really appretiate it if someone could look on http://www.richersounds.com/home.php and piece together a decent setup, these people have a shop not far from me so I could go down and listen. I don't know which audio brands are good/bad

Of the brands I see there, Tannoy, KEF, and Wharfdale all make very nice speakers.

The Wharfedale DIAMOND 9.1 is looking like a good bet to me - reasonably efficient so you won't need silly amounts of power to drive it well, magnetically shielded, and has the option of bi-wiring for more flexibility down the road.

Personally, I'm a sucker for KEF's sound, so I would try to spring for the Kef Q1s. You could drive them with a flea-watt amp if you so chose with the 91db sensitivity. Never heard this specific model, but many of the vintage Kef speakers I've been able to give a listen to are among the nicest I've heard.

For your amp, I would go for a Cambridge Audio A5 or Nad C315BEE.

£250 for a 2.1 system is a tad expensive!?

I spent £40 on a trust 2.1 system thats made to look like something made by apple or ipod...

absolutly cracking!
there are cracking 2.1 systems out there for a dam site cheaper than that amigo!

get a £50-80 2.1 setup...
go out for a night on the town via some strip bars and spend what money you have saved!

lol
