Antivirus... the best of the best...? - Page 3

Do any of these AV programs help with other items than just viruses? While they might excel at handling viruses, those viruses, unfortunately, aren't the only threats to our systems. Rootkits are another issues, and according to the 2008 top ten av software site linked earlier (http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/), none of those apps handle rootkits.

I use Norton 360 2.0, which does handle rootkits.

I'd be more than willing to jump to another AV software app, but if I have to stack anti-virus software with anti-rootkit software with anti-spam software, does the av app's footprint really even matter that much...?

There is always: Avast, NOD32, AVG 8.0 Pro that you can get.

I am a fan of Kapersky and NOD32 for paid software, and Avast for free software.

Kapersky has one of the highest detection rating in the industry, and NOD32 is almost as good but with a significantly smaller footprint. Neither costs too much, either.

Bullguard is about the best you can get.

Look on that site under anti-virus / firewall suites.

I liked NOD32, but it really didn't compare to the massive degree of tweaking (firewall wise) I could do with Bullguard. Plus it is almost half the price of NOD32.

LOL, you all would hang me if you knew what anti-virus I use, the term "bloated" should give you a clue.

But I have to agree with others, NOD32 and AVAST are the 2 most popular for a reason. They are effective, use little resources and are popular enough to have updated deinition files.

LOL, It doesn't begin with an 'N' does it?

That's one of the good reasons I use Avast Pro.. One or even two definition file updates per day from Avast. So I would like to think that they're on the ball all the time.

I tried them all... And I keep my NOD32 ON while gaming no problems or slow downs not like the other ones listed.. Very very light weight, it doesn't bloat your system..
