Working IM Add-Ons for FireFox?

Thread Starter
I'm at my work and sites like meebo.com and aim express are blocked. So is Yahoo and Gmail and pretty much every emailing site so I can't use the chat features in email clients either.

Is there a FireFox add-on or something that can get me on AIM? I tried Yoono plugin but it didn't work..

Thanks

Donno. For IM stuff, I just use Pidgin, which is an open source IM software, not a Firefox addon. If you're having trouble with IM, try Pidgin:

GREAT SCOTT!

I've figured it out. Your work wont let you connect to meebo, right? So you need an application that will let you directly connect to AIM, right? but you can't install applications, I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT MOBILE PIDGIN!

http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/pidgin_portable

Buy a thumb drive, or use an exsisting one, install the application when you're on your home computer, onto your thumb drive, and take it to work, and boot the application FROM your harddrive. It won't install ANYTHING onto your computer, thus, not needing administrative rights! It'll run straight off your thumb drive! BUWAHAHAHAHA

Yeah, Portable Pidgin might work.

You can also use a proxy... Firefox Tor addon:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2275

There's also the possibility of not using an IM at work? At least, they clearly don't want you to.

I'd prefer not to use a proxy for security purposes..

We don't want people using IM/third party email because some people are idiots and get viruses on the computer. Yes, I said "we" because I work for the IT department. I work as a summer intern and just came back a few days ago, once everything is set up for me i'll have my local network admin again, but until then i'll just try Portable Pidgin
