Are you saying he should do a fresh install? If you are that is just ridiculous.

There is no reason to not update other then:

1) Your windows copy is ill legit

2) You have a need not to update (incompatibility, hotfix specific problem)

3) Update on your machine does not work, which you should fix it

4) You don't care about security and like vulnerabilities

Windows will not try to come kill you if you update it. Unless you made a bender unit machine, then it is not possible.

I don't think you would need any of that either...

to be honest i wouldn't mind reinstalling windows... EXCEPT:

in order to reinstall WoW, you need to instal the original game (1.5+ hours), then the expansion (1 + hours), then download each patch in succession, all the way from 1.6 -> 2.4 with new patch numbers in the hundreds place (not tens) ((20-30 min each))

so yeah... that's ridiculous.

Is there a way to keep windows update from restarting my computer while i'm trying to kill a raid boss?

also, the X10 is not Dx10 for my new 9600?

Yeah, just leave the "Do you want to restart box open"

And no, it is not DX10, if you are running Windows Vista I have never heard of a Direct X that runs its own processes.

I saw that you run XP Pro, XP Pro does not have DX10, so it is not from your card.

Well, then there are a couple problems...

1) You are addicted to WoW

2) Don't run anything while you are updating your machine

3) Go do something while you update

Actually (I also play WoW) there was a big thing about having to update Adobe flash because there was an exploit that was targeting WoW players ... in fact we had a member of my guild on Cairne get hit by it ... they stole as much from the guild bank as they could stole all his stuff and deleted all his characters ... so when he got his account back he had to start over again...

hmm is there a way to start updates manually? this would both make me feel better about i robot cause i could stay ready to hit the circuit breaker while it updated and not interrupt my games
