Go to microsoft.com and use their updater, it is basically the exact samething, except you have a couple more options.

Use Dial-A-Fix to get your updates to go through. Works about 80% of the time.

Unpack it and run the dial-a-fix.exe. Check the box at the bottom with the multiple green checkmarks, then hit GO. I have found it to work better and easier than the famous Crypto-Fix, but you may have to do a CF if the Dial-A-Fix doesn't work. I will show you how to create the .bat file if you need me to execute the CF. It's actually really easy if you follow the instructions in that link.

Unlike some people around here, I actually do this stuff for a living. All day, every day. I have never had a customer's PC leave me that could not do Automatic Updates. I will help you get all straightened out if you want.

well, there is a new problem, er problems:

Windows update doesn't work.
McAffee update doesn't work.
Setup.exe doesn't work (when trying to uninstall programs).

Tried in safe mode, make sure all processes were one, etc. I think i'm going to have to dig out my windows CD... pretty sure one of these "spyware/malware" catchers was a little over anxious and killed some pretty important stuff

i would personally peel myself away from the computer for a few hours to locate the xp cd. With all the problems you have explained, and the lack of updates on your PC, the smart thing would be to reinstall and start from scratch. Those few hours will add up to less time than if you let the problems persist.

and it seems as if you are a college kid. i have a solution to what you can do while your pc and wow update.
