New Computer Doesn't Cooperate

Thread Starter
Well, technically, I just installed a new motherboard. Anyways, I just received a brand new DFI Lanparty DK p35 motherboard to replace my dying Gigabyte DS3-965P. I spent countless hours rebuilding it, and when I finally got it all put back together and hit that power switch, nothing. So, I started fiddling with the front port connections, flipping them around to see if I had them backwards. Still nothing. So I decided to just unplug all of them and use the motherboard's own power and reset switch. Nothing. At this point I was slightly frustrated. So I kept fiddling around, and eventually got it to turn on. It sounded like everything was fine until the GPU's fan started running at full speed. That happens when the post screen doesn't want to show, and sure enough, no post screen at all. So I swapped out my GPU with a PCI video card, and still nothing. I tried a DVI connection, then a VGA connection. Still nothing. I tried running with no peripherals hooked up to the PSU, one stick of memory, and a video card (no onboard on this motherboard).

Could I please get some assistance on this problem? I'm about fed up with it at the moment; I'm going to be tackling it tomorrow after work. Here are the specs of my computer:

Thermaltake Shark Case
DFI Lanparty DK p35
Corsair 520HX PSU
Intel Core 2 Duo e4400
2x1GB Geil Ultra DDR2 800 PC2-6400
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640mb
Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7,200RPM HD

I would GREATLY appreciate any help at all at this point, because I REALLY don't want to have to unmount my Scythe Infinity off my CPU, which has a custom bolt mod that is very hard and time consuming to mount / unmount, and have to RMA my motherboard. That would really make my day.

try booting using the RAM 1 at a time in all slots. I have seen 1 bad stick keep the thing from powering up. Then test your PSU. if that doesn't work, I think you are going to have to take everything apart and try booting it outside of the case.

Well, so far I have:

- Reset the CMOS via jumper
- Taken CMOS battery out and put it back in
- Put in the CMOS battery from my old motherboard
- Put in a different stick of memory

Still nothing. One thing I have noticed, though, is when I have the PSU turned on and everything is plugged in, I'll try pressing the power button on the motherboard, but it won't turn on. However, when I plug in the speaker cable for the case, it magically turns on. Weird, don't you think?

Anyways, I am going to take apart the computer after work today, and plug it in outside of the case and see what happens.

WOO!

I plugged in my computer out of the case, and it posted and everything works fine! I must have had a wrong connection somewhere. So now comes part where I get frustrated trying to fix all the wires in my computer...

Thanks for the help!

Edit: Well.... things didn't go exactly as planned. Even though the computer worked out of the case, when I put everything back in, it started doing the same exact thing again.

I'm going to keep unplugging and plugging stuff back in to see what the problem is....

Well, I have every single front panel pin unplugged and I am still getting the same problem.

UPDATE
I got the computer working. Turns out some extra standoffs were shorting out the motherboard. Amazing how something so negligible can mess up your computer, eh?
