The GTX 280 is still impressive. It comes close to beating a GX2 at the Performance score and it's a single GPU.

The 3dmark06 numbers are interesting.

At stock settings with a dual core chip at 3.6 using vista of all things, they get 17k?

With my cards at stock with cpu at 3.6, I get just shy of 21k. take away about 1000 points for vista vs. xp and it looks like about a 3k difference between the 4850 and 4870. thats a sizeable gap

And yeah, the pricing is done by the current market RRPs in New Zealand. Sorry if it doesn't match up to pricing in your local markets. FPS don't care about geography though at least

are you using that quad core in your sig though? that would whack on a fair few points in 3dm06

9800 GTX+ is looking like a nice budget card solution. (luckily ati is getting nvidia to lower it's prices, or it would probably be 400+) I think 9800 GTX+ SLI might be a good choice.
