With the .10, the revised unit had the "pink'' goop visible on the motor. Well, I attained two pinks, fully formatted them and one locked up my PC(s) whether it was installed or in an external case.

So does my Maxtor SATA 1 drive. Also, I have an IDE from both companies, and they both work fine as well (going on 6 years sustained use)

My 7200.9 was an IDE drive. It died out in 3 months, my 7200.10 took 3.5 months, and then the last seagate drive I bought was a 7200.11 which lasted 5 months. All were purchased brand new. And all failed miserably.

If you are worried about the reliability of the .11's as compared to the .10's consider this. I had 4 different .10's fail on me within a month.

IMO get the .11's

It really does come down to individual user experience. I have had my 2x320 7200.10 Baracuda's since August 2007, and had them in RAID 0, and now currently in RAID 1. I've had fantastic results in RAID 0, not so much RAID 1. But, (knocks on wood) they are still running today.

I have been a longtime fan of Seagate, not so much time with WD, but time will tell!

Honestly, if every HDD you get fails within 6 months, then it's you, not the drives. The odds of that are extremely low.

My RAID 0 with 2 320gb 7200.10's have been awesome at 128k stripe size for a while now.

I just picked up a 1TB 7200.11 and it's serving as an eSATA backup in a sweet Rosewill case as my video and audio backup drive.
