Will a C2D E4400 Bottleneck a HD 4850?

Thread Starter
Hello there, I am considering purchasing an ATi Radeon HD 4850 and was wondering if the my Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 @ 2.0Ghz will have a negative impact on game performance? I cannot overclock the CPU as my motherboard is just some stock HP crappy motherboard.

Cheers,
SlickMeister

Take a look at the BSEL mod guide in my sig, it allows overclocking on motherboards like yours.

I can't really get a new CPU at the moment and I don't think I'm adventurous enough to try your mod japan1. Although, I may consider doing it.

or just get cpu cooler like TRUE and overclock your cpu to ~3.4 - 3.6
post #8 of 14
alright come'on now

when you say bottleneck, that can be taken so many ways.

the e4400 will probably 'bottleneck' your 3dmark score. hence saying a quad at 3.6 will definitely get a higher score than a e4400 at stock because of CPU score.

so the e4400 will limit the HD4850 to a certain point. since you say you cannot get another cpu. i would just OC that cpu to as high as you can get without damaging it.

I suggest doing a slight 24/7 overclock. 2.66ghz and 3.00ghz should be fine provided you have a nice CPU cooler. In most games the e4400 will do fine, however CPU intensive games, your e4400 will be a bottleneck.
