Perfect LCD monitor

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am looking for a LCd monitor which is perfect for movie/video watching, gaming & webpage viewing. What types would be better ( widescreen or normal)? I heard widescreen is 2" smaller in height if we compare it with same size normal monitor. Plz give me a solution.

I have two widescreen 19 inch monitors. One is an Acer and one is a samsung. The samsung is INCREDIBLE and I'm sure lots of people will agree with me that samsung is an excellent brand when it comes to monitors.

So, I'm recommending a 19 inch samsung for gaming, movies, and all that stuff.. You can get those cheap now, approx 180 monies.

Widescreen is the way to go, especially if you think you'll be watching movies. The widescreen aspect ratios aren't as distorted as the 4:3 ratio. What price range are you looking at? Will you be using HDMI? I just picked up a Samsung 216BW and I love it so far. I also have an older 19" Dell LCD with the 4:3 ratio, but I much prefer the 16:10 widescreen.

I've been doing research for my new LCD and I have to say that the Samsung 216BW is quite amazing for the price. That's the one I'm going to get. Has a great response time and contrast ratio.

Yes, Wide screens are "shorter" than their standard counterparts.

If going widescreen, I personally would not get anything smaller than a 22". 19" widescreens are jut too small.

I personally like my 19" standard monitors. The view pictures better and are just the right size.
That being said, my next monitor will be a 22" widescreen, since I like haveing the sidebar on Vista on top all the time, the widescreen will give me that extra bit of screen space.

What? There's no distortion at all. It depends how the video was mastered... widescreen is just wider, and that's it.

Isn't 4:3 just widescreen with the edges chopped off?

Woops! Yes you guys are right my bad! I was thinking of movies on a tv. How they format it differently for 4:3. What I mean to say is that you get a wider viewing angle, which for most instances (like watching movies, or playing games) is better.

Sorry for the confusion!

I agree that this is a great monitor. I have one (although mine's for sale right now to upgrade to a dual 24" setup) and I've loved it over the past 6-7 months. If your interested in purchasing one on the cheap, PM me.
