Settings for 5.1?

Thread Starter
Just want to make sure I am doing things the best way.

I have my prelude going optical to my Z-5500's.

In the X-Fi control panel I have CMSS-3D enabled (50%) and Dolby Digital Live on the S/PDIF out for the Z-5500's.

Sound is coming from everything so have I done it right or is there anything I should do differently?

Cheers

Sounds about right to me. How does everything sound?
What do you mean from everything? Did you mean testing each speaker individually and all of them having sound?

I used them for a long time with the optical and yes everything is correct... I kept mine at 75% depending on how close the rear speakers are to you. If it sounds clear then you're good to go

Note: CMSS-3D Effects everything. So if something is meant to come out the front left speaker only, CMSS-3D will also play it through the rear. If something is meant to come out the REAR Speakers only, it will come out only the rear speakers. Meaning your rear speakers now play ANYTHING that is on the left/right channels regardless of front of back. In games this means that explosions infront of you will sound like they're right ontop of you and enemies behind you will sound more distant they actually are. I normally leave it disabled myself but if your listening to music then its nice to have.

I changed the balance to 65% surround as I sit near the front of my room instead of the back...

Now I can hear the rear speakers better and also hear the front.

As for games, I only ever use headphones which are plugged straight into my sound card.

All it does is blend the channels together. Period. I get the same effect when I switch my Z-5500's to Rear stereo mode. All it does is re-direct the sound from one channel to a different speaker in a lesser mode in addition to what should be coming from that channel

To the OP: If your not doing any true 5.1 work (movies, games etc...) then CMSS is great!

Well as most of my music isn't in 5.1, I think its great!

I have turned the surround volume on the Z's to a nothc higher so I can hear behind me.
