How do you only enable CF when you want it to

If i were to buy a 2nd 4850, I could crossfire them. Now what if I didn't need that horsepower? Is there a way to essentially SHUT OFF one card in games less intensive like...Counter Strike Source? Without rebooting to take out the card physically?

EDIT: Wow, I completely misunderstood your post. I thought you were asking if it auto-shuts off. Actually, you might be able to check/uncheck the enable/disable box and hit the "apply" button. Not sure if it actually disables/enables without a reboot or not.

Quote:
Activating the Crossfire is very simple, you just have to check the box in the Catalyst Control Center wait a couple of seconds and then close the software. You don’t have to reboot the computer.
Source

However, if you have two cards with different memory sizes and want to re-enable crossfire, you must restart so that the two can be matched to the lower size.

In the Catalyst Control Center, there is a checkbox that says "Enable Crossfire"...

Exactly- no reboot required.

There is no way of powering down any of the cards without physically removing it from the computer. But you can disable crossfire as the ones above me stated, but dont think that is what you asked for?

Yes, but if you're only using one card then the second won't ramp up to 3D clock speeds while you're gaming, so it will only use idle power >40W.

That's the golden answer I've been looking for. I wanted to completely shut off one card, while I play CSS or something, and have it turn on while I play Assassins Creed or something REP+
Although the 1st one to respond will also get rep
