Need help from you AMD lovers :)

Right i have built my pc and a few others and i've only ever done intel. Someone i know has asked me to build them a budget pc for business use. Only requirements is it can do two things at once i.e dual core. I was looking at intel but the AMD prices are so cheap.

All i really wanted to ask was is there any speed difference in AMD and intel processors and is this processor any good:

AMD AM2 Athlon 64 X2 6000+ , Windsor Core, Dual Core 3.0GHz, 1MB Cache, OEM

thanks!

anyone?

That's a great processor. Although it seams to have a small L2 cache that's not really needed unless you are encoding video. In theory you get more bang for your buck with Intel because they overclock really well but if you're keeping it at stock, I personally think, AMD is the way to go. That processor should tackle everything thrown at it.

Thank you very much exactly what i was looking for

Yea, the X2's are great processors. The only thing is that they are fairly high powered ( still 90nm technology), so i dont know if thats important to your customer. If it is i'd go for a smaller cheaper processor. The 4800+ is like $60 right now ( 2.5GHz and 65w).

Oh and from what I hear, AMD and intel are fairly close (clock for clock) right now ( within a few % most of the time). So, given that they're gonna be using it for buisness, they'd probably never see a difference between the two. Then you could spend more on RAM, which they'd probably notice more than anything.

The x2 6000+ is a great processor, but I'd also consider the Phenom 8450. It's about $20 more.
