New System... will run 3DM06 tonight... Guess my score!

OK, total newb here. I bought (yes *bought* not *built*) a new computer today, will set it up and run 3dmark06 tonight.

Specs are:

Phenom 9550 X4
9300GS (for now)
5GB RAM (1x2gb, 3x1gb)
750gb 3gb/s 16mb/cache
Vista 64 Premium
400w HD

Obviously not o/c, still in box.

What should I expect? I will likely get a new video card soon, as my current 7900 AGP won't work.

The 5gb should help out of the box... as well as the phenom. I got a pretty good deal on the machine - $729 (and they knocked $30 off the 19" widescreen hp monitor, to $199).

Good deal? Should I expect some decent numbers out of the box (pre-video card upgrade)?

Thanks - I look forward to learning more!

Wow... On Newegg you can get a 22'' Acer monitor for $209, 1680x1050...

And of course, a AGP card won't work with PCI.

If you are lucky probably around 7K. That's an integrated GFX card right. If possible, upgrade soon! It will really hold your score back.

You should of posted a build me a $800 rig thread here before you bought ;D Whats done is done though and good luck with 3DMARK and OC'n..

Oh and you might want a new PSU if you plan on getting a new graphics card.

Thanks for the responses...

The 9300GS is the newly rebranded 8400GS (as of a couple weeks ago). It is not integrated (it is PCI-E 16, 256mb)

Sorry I was stating the obvious regarding the AGP card, yes I was aware.

I didn't think it was a bad system for $729. And at newegg the 22" ACER (one of the cheapest models, ws $219).

New Egg has my monitor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824176077) for $229. I paid $199, not bad, IMO.

Thanks again everyone.

I'd like to spend no more than $75-$100 now on a video card... should I opt for a 8600 GT? Should I hold out for a 8800? What about the 8600GTS. In my price range, should I look at 256 or 512mb?

Thanks again everyone. I do have access to a 600watt power supply (from my other machine, will swap it once it is decommisioned).

Hold out for something better. The 8600GT/GTS are a dissapointing range of cards. If you can stretch to a ATI HD4850 they are great performers at the moment, If you want to stick with Nvidia the 8800GTS G92 512mb would be a good investment. You can overclock your 8400GS until you can afford an upgrade.
