Well they had mine a week before sending me a new one, and FedEx took about a week. They had it 3 days according to UPS before they even said they had gotten it in an email to boot.

The real issue was the noise though, apparently they are "upgrading" all their fans to ones that run at 100% speed all the time, which is an insane amount of noise, compared to the 30% stock they did run at, which was plenty to cool the card if you have good ventilation.

Anyways mostly I needed to rant this morning, if they send me a fan soon with permission to install it without voiding the warranty I'll be happy.

XFX lock the 8800GT fans to 100%, I thought this was common knowledge.. 2/3pin etc however they do it. It's either you can have a nice quiet card that causes errors, or put up with the noise. You had a card that wasn't stable, they sent you a stable one back..

Should have just got an aftermarket cooler, an forgot about an RMA.

A guy I know was pissed at the exact samething, not being able to alter the fan speed. He called up XFX they sent out cooler/fan w/e that would allow him to alter the fan speed. Only set back is you have to install it yourself, not that much of a big deal I suppose.

His temps shot up at idle though, so be warned. Just raise the fan speed when you wanna use 3D intensive apps/games.

I know it's not the same but I too had a bad experience with XFX RMA. I bought an XFX 8800GT that was DOA. I contacted their customer support and they refused to cross ship a replacement even though I offered to give them a credit card number or whatever else they would need. I needed a working graphics card for my new apartment computer within a week or so and I have no spare graphics cards lying around.

Because of this I ended up RMAing the card and buying a 4850. I'll probably sell the 8800GT when it gets back and not go out of my way to buy XFX in the future.

Yeah, I was disapointed they wouldn't send me the replacement first myself. I was forced to buy another 8800gt to replace it while I was waiting for the RMA. My ZOTAC card is clocked higher and is 100% stable, unlike the alpha dog one, and they didn't need to use a 100% setting on the fan to do so. As far as I can tell, other than the painting on them and the overclock the two cards are identical.

To be clear my original card wasn't stable at any temperature, it was only at 60c under load and still screwing up. Saying they have to go to 100% fans is just a cop out. And I wasn't aware of situation, because it obviously didn't affect my original card.

[WILLIAM 7/1/2008 11:34:39 PM] Hello Steven, thank you for the message. It most definately will not void the warranty. It should be just fine. You will need a standard philips to remove the 12 screws on the back. This will allow the fan shroud to come off. Disconnect the power cable from the body of the card and then replace the fan with the one were sending you and all should be just fine. I`ll have the RMA team ship the replacement fan asap. Thanks, William.
Assuming the fan is in my hands within a week I may even by another XFX product in the future.

Well I got the 4 wire fan and slapped it on yesterday, and I'm back to where I was with a very quiet system, only in SLI now. Guess I can't complain about the overall experience since they were very quick to get a new fan to me, would of been last week even if not for the holiday probalby.

Personally I can't believe anyone can put up with the 100% speed noise all the time. Anyways I just thought I'd put a final update here so anyone reading this thread in future gets a fair look at XFX.

I think XFX did the right thing. I mean if it wasn't for stock fans on video cards being so freaking loud, then there wouldn't of been a problem. Most people that RMA probably aren't computer savvy and just want a working replacement.

Besides, just get an aftermarket cooler and call it done. I cranked the fan speed on my aftermarket card cooler to 100%, it was noticable at first, but not too loud. I've left it at 100% for the past couple days because it significantly decreased the load temps on my 8800 since I fold now. Now I don't even notice it.

Yeah, if you do have the alpha dog card with the locked fan, just put in a new ticket complaining about it. I did this for mine which had the 2 wire locked fan. They sent me a variable speed fan no questions asked. Just be careful though and watch it. Mine likes to remain at 30% fan at all times.
