(mobo wont let me overclock)

i have 2gb 8400 800Mhz ram

and a 700W thermal take psu

i'm thinking about changing my mobo and cpu to a E8400 and a asus (i think there a good overclocking brand) x48 mobo
Overclock your e4500. Your mobo is fine (although I don't particularly like ECS) if you can overclock with that mobo, do so. If you don't plan on using 2 or more GPUs in a setup in the future, get a p35 chipset. If you're, get a x48, or 750i depending if you'll be using nvidia or AMD GPUs

8800GT is still an amazing card. I upgraded mine to a 4850. Although the 4850 is better, there was nothing wrong with my 8800GT. If I didn't get my 4850 for so cheap ($140 ), I wouldn't have even considering selling my 8800GT and upgrading.

That being said, if you can sell your 8800GT for a decent price and upgrade without spending too much, it is definitely worth it.

I hope it lasts a quite a while.

Tech stuff depreciates so quickly. Find the balance of price and performance is the key. Extra hundred dollars may just gains few percentages of performance boost. A solid P35 boards from Asus, DFI or Gigabyte and an E7200 is a good starting point. With that said, you can sell your 8800GT and get a 4850. 4850 is a winner of performance vs. price for now.

EXACTLY what I did. Although my 4850 was $200, wanted the lifetime warranty

I always say that people shouldn't upgrade until they feel their hardware is inadequate. Like linskingdom said, tech stuff depreciates so quickly. Trying to stay in the top performance class will cost a premium. If you buy something that works for now, it will work for awhile unless there is a major tech breakthrough.

Once your system is obsolete, something just coming out will be much better than something you may pick up now to be "future proof".

The manual recommends you rotate the shaders every 10 quadrillion pixels.
